Last name is pronounced “HAL-uh-who-nee.” Also participated in basketball and track as a Washington prep. Sat out the fall of 2006 after a low ACT score and grayshirted in the spring. Redshirted in ’07. Suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during ’08 spring practice and missed the first four games in the fall but appeared in nine games and caught a three yard touchdown pass. Appeared in all 13 games in ’09, making a start at H-back against Arizona State, and hauled in 35 passes for 486 yards (13.9-yard average) and three touchdowns. Grabbed 30-390-6 (13.0) in 12 games (seven starts at H-back) in ’10. Underwent shoulder surgery following spring practice in ’11 and missed the first two games but recorded 31-268-3 (8.6) in 10 games with a start against UCLA.Positives:
Carries his weight well. Functional short-to-intermediate receiver. Has big, soft hands. Extends to grab high or low throws. Controls his body to shield/box out in traffic. Shows toughness and concentration to work the middle of the field. Good character. Coachable.Negatives:
Short arms. Tweener traits — lacks ideal height and athleticism for a tight end and does not have a fullback’s mentality. Unsudden and slow of foot. Poor blocker — limited functional strength, physicality and tenacity. Struggles to adjust. Does not project as a core special-teams player. Has been dinged up.Summary:
Compactly built, sure-handed, fairly productive H-back who will have to be schemed open in the pros. Blocking deficiencies and limited special-teams value hurts his chances.
