Has a strong, compact build and runs low to the ground with fine balance — keeps his legs churning on contact and will dip his shoulder and fight for yardage. Nice cutback ability. Bench-pressed 225 pounds 26 times at the Combine and has good weight-room strength. Functional hands catcher.Negatives:
Tight-hipped. Average speed to the perimeter. Lacks burst and acceleration. Is too easily turned on contact and is not a true power back. Does not create a lot of yards on his own. Durability has been an issue — has torn both ACLs and struggled to stay healthy for a full season. Raw in pass protection. Only a one-year starter against lesser competition.Summary:
A well-built Iowa transfer with considerable durability issues, Hampton could warrant interest as a No. 3 back if he proves he can stay healthy — a big if.
