Ashland (Ohio) - Eagles
Jeris Pendleton - #44 - DT
Engaged with two sons. Played middle linebacker and tight end at Dunbar Vocational Career Academy on the south side of Chicago and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2011. Was set to receive a scholarship to Michigan State but due to failing grades and family obligations, he spent the next six years working different jobs before returning to football at age 24. Was a walk-on at Joliet (Ill.) Junior College in 2008, where he posted 44 tackles, five tackles for loss and three sacks. In ’09, he registered 37 1/2-6-3 1/2 in 10 starts. In 11 starts at Ashland in ’10, he produced 35-2 1/2-1 with one batted pass, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick. Led the team in sacks in ’11 with 49-8 1/2-5 with two batted passes in 11 starts.Summary:
One-time BCS recruit whose career path was altered by family issues. Restarted his career in junior college before emerging as effective run stuffer at Division II Ashland. Needs to play with better leverage, but has excellent size and is strong enough to occupy blocks. Helped himself at the Northwestern pro day, where he showed surprisingly well. Addition will amount to a cheap free-agent signing, as he will be a 28-year-old rookie.
