The Texas prep was an all-state selection on both sides of the ball as a senior, allowing only one sack on offense and recording 20 sacks as a defensive lineman. Also participated in basketball and track. Redshirted in 2007. Saw action in all 13 games and recorded 13 tackles, 1 1⁄2 tackles for loss and one sack in ’08. Tallied 28-3-1 1⁄2 with a forced fumble in 13 games (seven starts) at defensive end in ’09. Was arrested in August 2010 after hitting a former teammate with a beer bottle in a Stillwater bar and was originally charged with a felony count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer. Pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of assault and battery and was sentenced to one year of probation and 30 hours of community service. Also was suspended by head coach Mike Gundy for the season opener against Washington State. Started 7-of-12 games in which he played in ’10 and led the team in sacks, posting 27-5 1⁄2-5 1⁄2 with two passes batted down and a forced fumble. Made all 13 starts at DE spot in ’11, leading the Cowboys in tackles for loss and sacks after totaling 50-13 1⁄2-8 with seven batted passes, one interception and one forced fumble.Positives:
Has broad shoulders and is very strong in the upper body. Is stout and can stack the corner. Has large hands and uses them actively to protect his legs. Utilized in fire zones. Extremely tough. Outstanding effort, motor and energy. Plays with vinegar.Negatives:
Has tweener traits. Short arms. Top-heavy. Average get-off. Tightly wound and unsudden with limited agility. Straight-line, non-creative rusher. Not a playmaker. Got beat up by the ball in LB drills at the Combine. Character needs to be looked into.Summary:
Strong, tough, try-hard college defensive end in a linebacker’s body whose best attributes are his strength and relentless playing style. Has the makeup to earn a reserve job as a 4-3 left end or be tried as an edge-setting left outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.
