Married. Name is pronounced “HEB-ron ‘LOW-nee’ fan-GOO-poe.” The California prep spent two years on a Mormon mission in Manila, Philippines after high school. Began his collegiate career at Mt. San Antonio Community College (Calif.), where he recorded 24 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks in 2007 and 47-15-6 in ’08. Saw action in only three games for USC in ’09, recording 2-1⁄2-0, after breaking his left ankle against Washington State and missing the final nine games of the season and taking a medical redshirt. Played in the first seven games of the ’10 season and posted 4-0-0 but missed the last six contests because of an undisclosed injury. Chose to transfer and walk-on at BYU at the conclusion of the season — for “family reasons” — after someone broke into his apartment while his wife was alone. Started 10-of-13 games at left end in the Cougars’ 3-4 alignment and logged 26-6-0 with two batted passes in ’11.

Has overall body thickness, natural girth, large hands and tree-trunk legs. Very strong — bench-pressed 225 pounds 36 times at the Combine. Plays with a stout base and has two-gap ability. Roots himself vs. double-teams. Heavy-handed to stack and shed. Light on his feet for a big man. Deployed in multiple alignments.

An overaged former junior-college product and USC recruit, Fangupo is a stout, squarely built, thick-bodied, NFL-strong, Polynesian nose tackle who brings value as a two-down run stuffer. Has experience in an odd front and could draw interest from teams such as the Jets, 49ers and Steelers, or could function on a heavy 4-3 line such as that of the Bills and Browns.
