Finished his high school career as the sixth all-time rusher in Texas 5A history (5,717 yards). Also earned a pair of track-and-field letters as a prep. Redshirted in 2007. Played seven games in ’08, drawing two starts, and rushed 64 times for 284 yards (4.4-yard average) and zero touchdowns with 10 receptions for 51 yards (5.1) and zero touchdowns. Missed six games because of a knee injury. Sat out the first three games in ’09 (knee) before carrying 53-212-4 (4.0) and catching 13-51-0 (3.9) in 11 games (three starts). Started 7-of-11 games in which he played in ’10 and rushed 80-351-2 (4.4) with 5-59-0 (11.8). Also completed two passes for 40 yards. Did not play against Florida Atlantic (stinger). Started 6-of-9 games in which he played in ’11, managing 66-386-6 (5.8) rushing and 16-145-1 (9.1) receiving before tearing the ACL and MCL in his right knee against Missouri. Was medically excluded from the Combine because of the injury. Two-time team captain. Has graduated. Fumbled three times in 336 career touches, gaining 4.7 yards per carry.Positives:
Has dependable hands and is an accomplished receiver who catches easily outside his frame. Good short-area burst and finishing speed. Fast in a straight line. Outstanding intangibles — smart, well-spoken, hardworking leader.Negatives:
Average eyes and instincts. Not strong or powerful to run inside. Goes down easy on contact. Durability has been a major concern — has missed parts of three seasons with knee injuries and cannot stay healthy. Marginal, underpowered blocker with limited strength.Summary:
Straight-linish, finesse, speed-dependent, change-of-pace back with leadership traits highly desired in a locker room. Could fill a niche receiving role.
