Notes:

Name is pronounced “eh-MEAL ig-wen-AH-goo.” His given first name is Uchechukwu. As a Massachusetts prep, he rushed for 5,037 yards and 54 touchdowns and made 290 tackles with 12 interceptions and was named MVP on consecutive championship teams. Redshirted in 2007 while working at both linebacker and running back. Saw most of his action on special teams and as a blocker in ’08, rushing twice for 16 yards (8.0-yard average) and no scores and grabbing one pass for 16 yards in 11 games. Moved to H-back for the ’09 campaign and caught 24-288-1 (12.0) with 6-11-0 (1.8) rushing in 11 games (three starts). Dealt with injuries all year in ’10, grabbing 12-142-0 (11.8) in eight games with six starts at tight end. Missed three games because of a sprained ankle and turf toe, with the ankle injury hampering him all season. Started 10-of-11 games in ’11 and established receiving career highs after catching 38-375-3 (9.9) and recording his first career rushing touchdown. Two-time team captain.

Positives:

Outstanding arm length. Versatile and has lined up at multiple positions in a pro-style offense. Competes hard and is aggressive positioning — can get second-level fits. Flashes power and runs his feet on contact. Uses his hands well to control and steer. Good weight-room strength. Has special-teams experience. Unselfish, team player. Respected leader. Smart and accountable. Very durable.

Negatives:

Is straight-linish and not a crafty route runner — gathers to cut. Lacks creativity after the catch. Is not quick-handed and will let the ball get on top of him (also noticeable in Combine drills). Can do a better job consistently finishing blocks. Has not faced top competition.

Summary:

A tough, competitive “move” blocker who has lined up all over the field and has the grit, tenacity and determination to contribute and fend for a spot on special teams.
