Notes:

Was ranked as the No. 1 receiver in North Carolina as a prep and helped the basketball team win a pair of state titles. Attended Hargrave Military Academy (Va.) for the 2007 season. Saw action in only three games at UNC in ’08 and did not record any statistics. In ’09, caught five passes for 21 yards (4.2-yard average) and zero touchdowns in seven games of limited action at wide receiver. Started 12-of-13 games in ’10 and led the team in receiving after grabbing 62-946-4 (15.3). Only non-start was because team opened in a two-TE formation. Hauled in a team-leading 85-1,196-12 (14.1) in 13 starts in ’11. Had two career rushes for 11 yards. Only one career fumble.

Positives:

Excellent size and length — big-bodied target. Boxes out smaller cornerbacks. Good acceleration and body control for a big receiver. Deceptive vertical speed. Tracks the ball over his shoulder. Gets himself open if given a free release. Can sidestep tacklers and shows some giddyup to chew up run-after-catch yards. Very good two-year production. Lined up inside and outside. Has some upside.

Negatives:

Straight-linish. Unrefined route runner — does not sell his patterns. Needs to learn to sink his hips and does not pop out of breaks. Lets throws into his body and drops catchable balls (see Missouri). Physicality and competitiveness in a crowd are merely adequate. Yields some break points and will pull up short. Poor blocker. Requires simple assignments (had difficulty grasping concepts at the Senior Bowl). Disappointing effort giving up on bad balls at the Combine. Does not factor on special teams.

Summary:

Big, long-striding, inconsistent, outside receiver with a basketball build and a finesse mentality. Has clear size, athletic ability and developmental value, but unsophisticated route running, mental concerns and intermittent intensity could prevent him from ever reaching his potential.
