His brother, Desmond Clark, was an 11-year NFL tight end for the Broncos, Dolphins and Bears. Dominique also earned letters in basketball and track and field (high jump) as a Florida prep. Enrolled at Boston College and redshirted in 2007. Saw action in six games in ’08, starting the last three games, and completed 63-of-138 passes (45.7 percent) for 741 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions. Decided to leave B.C. in June ’09 after being suspended for academic reasons. Transferred to Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College for the ’09 season and threw for 113-215-1,467-6-8 (52.6) in 12 games, leading the Greyhounds to a No. 2 national ranking. In ’10, didn’t join East Carolina until fall camp but went on to set 15 single-season school records with 393-609-3,967-37-16 (64.5) in 13 contests and earn Conference USA Newcomer of the Year honors. Made all 12 starts in ’11, passing 334-494-3225-25-19 (67.6) and rushing for a team-high five touchdowns. Had 28 career rushing touchdowns and a 23-17 record in 40 career starts.Positives:
Quick-footed and athletic to escape the rush, extend plays and throw on the move. Good arm strength when his mechanics are in sync. Good scrambling ability and run strength. Competitive and intelligent with leadership traits. Works hard in the weight room.Negatives:
Worked out of the shotgun in a wide spread system and most of his throws/completions were short and/or lateral. Needs to hasten set-up and delivery. Inconsistent mechanics — has a long-armed, low-elbow release that restricts his accuracy and ability to drive the ball on a line down the field. Tends to throw off his back foot and does not transfer his weight. Limited pocket awareness. Stares down primary receiver and short circuits when he has to locate secondary options. Shoddy judgment — too many ill-advised throws into traffic. Puts too much air under fade throws. Does not exhibit a commanding on-field temperament.Summary:
A lean, athletic, inconsistent, short-to-intermediate thrower, Davis’ learning curve is greater than his upside because of inaccuracy, unpolished mechanics and limited instincts.
