Notes: Also ran track as a Florida prep. Redshirted in 2007. Participated in track for Florida in the spring of ’08. Saw action in all 14 games in the fall, hauling in 18 passes for 269 yards (14.9-yard average) and three touchdowns. Started all 12 games in which he played and recorded 24-343-4 (14.3) in ’09. Missed the Tennessee and Kentucky games because of a hamstring injury. Led the Gators in receptions and receiving yards in ’10, grabbing 38-570-1 (15.0) in 13 contests (12 starts). Did not start against Appalachian State and sustained a concussion against LSU.
Summary:A one-time elite recruit, Thompson is a chiseled speed merchant who did not live up to expectations in Gainesville, as he was plagued by drops and inconsistent play. Has rare timed speed, special-teams experience and quality makeup to turn heads in camp. Could be tried as a “gunner”/outside kickoff coverage man and/or kickoff returner.
