Notes: Played tight end, quarterback and linebacker as a Washington prep. Redshirted in 2007 and appeared in one game in ’08. Played in all 13 games in ’09, starting five in two-TE sets, and recorded 12 receptions for 185 yards (15.4-yard average) and zero touchdowns. Started all 13 games in ’10 and totaled 24-418-4 (17.4). Was the starter in 13-of-14 contests in ’11, hauling in 31-438-6 (14.1). Only non-start was against LSU in the opener when the Ducks went with two running backs.
Positives:Has long arms and big, dependable hands. Concentrates in traffic — can take a hit and hang on. Cradles low throws. Nice boundary awareness. Outstanding personal and football character. Very intelligent. Durable, competitive and coachable.
Negatives:Lacks bulk strength and is limited in line where he gets outmuscled. Struggles to connect with moving targets or sustain. Pedestrian athletic ability and limited explosiveness. Not sudden off the line and builds to average speed. Stiff route runner — will struggle to shake man coverage. Not strong or elusive after the catch. Does not project as a special-teams standout.
Summary:Long-levered, smooth-muscled, straight-linish, short-to-intermediate pass catcher with sure hands, average athletic traits and limited functional strength. Effective, overachieving college player who was aided by Oregon’s turbo-speed spread scheme and talented skill players.
