Last name is pronounced “TWO-poe.” His brother, Fenuki, has been on the practice squads of the Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints as an offensive tackle. Christian played defensive end and fullback, in addition to basketball as a California prep. Saw action in four games as a true freshman in 2007. Played in all 13 games in ’08, starting the last 10 games at nose tackle, and recorded 12 tackles, three tackles for loss and zero sacks with one pass batted down. Started 11-of-13 contests at nose tackle, posting 25-4-1 1⁄2 with two forced fumbles in ’09. Suffered a knee injury in the ’10 spring game and missed the season after surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee. Did not participate in ’11 spring practice but started all 12 games at nose tackle in the fall and managed 16-0-0. Team captain.Positives:
Engages quickly off the snap. Good upper-body and point-of-attack strength. Active hands and feet. Plays hard and gives effort in pursuit. Three-year starter. Solid personal and football character. Well-respected — motivated, hardworking and coachable.Negatives:
Pedestrian length. Marginal foot speed. Not an explosive athlete. Can be displaced by double-teams. Tested poorly at the Combine — managed just a 24-inch vertical leap, 7-foot, 8-inch broad jump and clocked a DT-worst time of 8.07 seconds in the 3-cone drill. Average eyes and recognition. Tight hips (cannot work edges). Limited pass-rush value. Played in rotation.Summary:
Relatively small-framed, stout, intense, unflashy nose tackle who rebounded from a torn ACL in 2010 to regain his standing as a senior. Plays better than he tests and could develop into an effective two-down plugger in a 4-3 alignment.
