Defensive end-tight end who also lettered in track and field as a Pennsylvania prep. Walked on and redshirted in 2007. Saw limited action in three games in ’08. Awarded a scholarship in ’09, when he provided depth, playing all 12 games and recording 12 tackles, five tackles for loss and four sacks with a forced fumble and a blocked FG attempt. Started all 13 games in ’10 and produced 57-9-71⁄2 with three passes batted down. Logged 57-151⁄2-61⁄2 with four batted passes, one interception and two forced fumbles in 13 starts at defensive tackle in ’11.

Large, active hands. Quick off the snap and fairly light on his feet. Makes plays behind the line. Good effort, hustle and pursuit — flattens down the line. Durable, tough and smart. 

Lacks ideal bulk. Marginal strength — 19 reps of 225 pounds was lowest total amongst DTs at the Combine. Tight hips. Average balance and body control. Limited lateral agility. Plays too tall and narrow-based — lets his pads rise off the snap. Does not feel pressure. Moved by double-teams. Struggles to neutralize blocks and locate. One-dimensional, straight-ahead rusher.

Adequate-sized, underdeveloped, unsophisticated, try-hard scrapper who isn’t pretty, but has enough athletic ability supplementing a stubborn trench temperament to compete for a backup job. Has to get stronger.
