Cornerback-receiver who also returned kicks and ran track as a Maryland prep. Played nine games as a reserve/special-teams player in 2008, recording eight tackles without a pass breakup or interception. Missed two weeks of spring practice after suffering a pulled left hamstring. Played in all 12 games at cornerback and led the team in interceptions in ’09, posting 66-4-4 with 1 1⁄2 tackles for loss. Started the final 10 games of the season after Miami Dolphins 2010 fifth-rounder Nolan Carroll was injured. Made all 13 starts at cornerback in ’10, after missing three weeks of fall camp with a strained left hamstring, and produced 70-8-0 with four tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble and a blocked kick against North Carolina State. Appeared in 10 games in ’11, making nine starts, and totaled 47-4-3 with two tackles for loss and one forced fumble before being benched and losing his starting spot. Did not play in the final two games (coach’s decision). Had a pair of interceptions returned for touchdowns — a 46-yard return against Clemson and a 54-yarder vs. Miami (Fla.).

Leverages routes in zone. Good short-area quickness. Flashes big-play ability and striking ability. Works to get off blocks and is a productive tackler. Experienced, three-year starter. Stable character. Mentally tough.

Adequate size with short arms (ineffective to jam and reroute receivers off the line). Fringe speed. Unreliable in man coverage — limited twitch, hip flex and transitional quickness. Average range and recovery burst. Could stand to get stronger.

Experienced, physical, quick-than-fast, cover-2 boundary corner at his best reacting to plays in front of him. Does not have size to convert to safety, but could stick as a reserve.
