Notes: Last name is pronounced “AILZ.” Also played defensive end and threw the shot put and discus as a California prep. Began his collegiate career at USC, where he appeared in nine games as a backup tight end as a true freshman in 2008 and caught six passes for 41 yards (6.8-yard average) and one touchdown. Missed four of the last five games with a sprained right knee that required arthroscopic surgery for a bone chip. Did not participate in ’09 spring drills because of the knee surgery and missed part of fall camp after surgery to correct a heart arrhythmia. Appeared in eight games in ’09 as a backup, catching 7-87-0 (12.4). Missed most of ’10 spring practice with a sprained ankle and a concussion but played in 10 games in the fall with 1-54-0 (54.0). Transferred to Miami and will be eligible to play in ’11 because of NCAA sanctions against USC and difficulties living under Lane Kiffin’s iron fist. Suffered a another concussion, his seventh since high school, during '11 fall camp and retired from football.
09/20/2011 (Injury Note): Miami TE Blake Ayles has decided to retire because of a history of concussions.
