Prepped in Alabama and threw for over 3,400 yards and 47 touchdowns as a senior. Redshirted in 2008 and missed the ’09 season with a torn ACL in his left knee. Backed up Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton in ’10, seeing limited action in six games and completing 6-of-9 pass attempts (66.7 percent) for 64 yards with zero touchdowns or interceptions. Also rushed five times for 68 yards (13.6-yard average) and one touchdown. Began the ’11 season as the starter before being benched against Florida and not playing again until the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. Overall, he played in eight games (seven starts) and threw for 92-167-1,184-11-6 (55.1) while rushing 36-62-0 (1.7). Came off the bench in the bowl game against Virginia after starter Clint Moseley was injured and threw for 175 yards and a touchdown to led the Tigers to a 43-24 victory. Had a 5-2 record in seven starts.
