The California prep played in 10 games off the bench as a true freshman in 2008 with one catch for two yards and one touchdown — it was the game-winning score in the Emerald Bowl against Miami (Fla.). Appeared in 11 contests, making 10 starts at tight end, in ’09 and had 26-357-0 (13.7-yard average) receiving. Missed games against Oregon State and Arizona following surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Started 11-of-12 contests in ’10, grabbing 13-152-1 (11.7). In ’11, he hauled in 24-263-3 (11.0) in 13 starts at tight end.

Good hands — catches naturally outside his frame and can make the one-handed grab. Good tracking ability and body control to adjust to throws. Flashes the ability to fit on downfield targets. Well-respected by teammates and coaches and brings a workmanlike mentality. 

Sluggish off the snap. Builds to average speed and is not a deep threat. Struggles to separate vs. man coverage. Has some concentration drops. Inconsistent in-line blocker — limited base strength and does not play with pop or power in his hands. Poor balance — lunges and slips off blocks. Does not seek to bury defenders.

Thick, tough, underpowered, inconsistent H-back who could be used to block on the move and catch short-to-intermediate. Needs to get stronger and play with more bite.
