Was a multisport athlete as a California prep, lettering in basketball, baseball and track in addition to football. Spent the 2007 season at Moorpark (Calif.) College, where he started 11-of-12 games at outside linebacker and registered 90 tackles and two sacks. Also competed for the track team in the javelin, long jump and on the 4x100-meter relay team. Transferred to Washington State and redshirted in ’08. Saw action in 11 contests in ’09, making eight starts at middle linebacker and one at “Will” linebacker, and registered 84 tackles, 4 1/2 tackles for loss and one sack with one pass breakup, a 52-yard interception returned for a touchdown against SMU and a forced fumble. Missed the Arizona State game with a staph infection. In ’10, he posted 81-5-2 with four pass breakups, two interceptions and one forced fumble in 12 starts from the WLB position.Summary:
Short, short-armed, weak-side linebacker with good foot speed who posted a 36-inch vertical leap and repped 225 pounds 36 times. Does not play downhill enough, shows some hip stiffness and is inconsistent when asked to come to balance in space. Biggest impact could come on special teams where he could run and hit.
