Prepped in California before attending Sacramento City College in 2007 (50 tackles, four sacks) and 2008 (33 tackles, seven tackles for loss) while playing nose tackle, defensive end and tackle. Signed with LSU for the ’09 campaign but was declared ineligible by the NCAA for receiving impermissible benefits during recruiting. Made nine starts for Regina in ’10 and posted 24 tackles, five tackles for loss and 1 1/2 sacks with one batted pass and two forced fumbles. Named Canada West’s Top Lineman in ’11 after recording a team high 42-8-6 1/2 with three passes batted down and two forced fumbles in nine starts.Positives:
Intriguing size and length — has vines for arms and large, heavy hands. Athletic movement skills and surprising agility. Nice acceleration and straight-line closing speed. Gives effort in pursuit. Suffocating tackler. Versatile — lines up inside, outside and in two- and three-point stances. Has some upside.Negatives:
Very raw. Needs to get stronger — does not play as physical or violent as stature indicates. Did not dominate marginal competition despite being physically superior to Canadian opponents. Tight ankles. Green instincts and untrained eyes. Has to refine hand use. Slow to counter and can improve shed timing.Summary:
Outstanding-sized, extremely long-armed, smooth-muscled, athletic, unpolished former SEC recruit with an intimidating presence, though he is a developmental project. Has size and length to play in an odd front or could contribute as a two-down, rotational tackle in a 4-3. Has moldable tools.
