Hawaii - Warriors
Aaron Brown - #1 - OLB
Was a multi-sport athlete as a Washington prep, seeing action at running back and safety in addition to lettering in wrestling and being part of the U-20 national rugby team. Spent two seasons at Saddleback CC (Mission Viejo, Calif.), where he played free safety and recorded a team-leading 64 tackles, two pass breakups and one interception with seven tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in 2007 and 52-6-2 with nine tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles in ’08. Made the move from safety to linebacker at Hawaii in ’09 and saw action in three games, recording 10 tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack before taking a medical redshirt for a right hamstring injury. Started 11-of-14 games at the MAC linebacker in ’10 and produced 83-9 1/2-5 with six pass breakups, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. Returned two interceptions for scores — 22 yards against San Jose State and a 33-yarder against New Mexico State. Moved to the Buck linebacker in ’11 and made 12 starts, recording a career high 103-13-4 1/2 with three pass breakups, three interceptions and one forced fumble. Was suspended for the season opener vs. Colorado after being arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge following a fight at a night club.Summary:
Undersized, productive weak-side linebacker who looks like a strong safety at first glance. Competent dropping into zone and is athletic enough to shadow tight ends. Is well-built and strong for his size — bench-pressed 225 pounds 31 times — but lacks ideal bulk to take on blocks and speed is ordinary to compensate for his smaller frame. Average instincts and trigger. Could compete for a backup/special-teams job.
