Giants' defense will be tested early
The Giants and new coordinator Perry Fewell know that they will face two tough, but very different, challenges to open next season in the run-heavy Panthers and the passing-proficient Colts.
Giants' Reese once again goes with big upside
Jerry Reese learned from Ernie Accorsi that you can never pass on pure pass rushers. They are just too rare. Thus, the selection of Jason Pierre-Paul should shock no one.
Giants may surprise with offensive pick
Although most pundits expect the Giants to draft a middle linebacker with their first-round pick, the whispers we're hearing indicate that an offensive player, such as TE Jermaine Gresham, wouldn't be a shocking choice.
Giants sign ex-Seahawks S Grant
The Giants have added some insurance at safety with ex-Seahawk Deon Grant, which seems to suggest that the Giants are not expecting to have a healthy Kenny Phillips to start the season.
Giants re-sign veteran P Feagles
Veteran P Jeff Feagles signed a new contract with the Giants on Thursday, ensuring the 44-year-old will play his 23rd NFL season in 2010.
Giants' Coughlin expects Umenyiora to compete
Tom Coughlin made strong comments last month, saying he wasn't prepared to guarantee a starting job to DE Osi Umenyiora, but Umenyiora has responded positively, Coughlin said.
Giants say Umenyiora can earn his spot
DE Osi Umenyiora wasn't happy with his role in the Giants' defense last season, a unit that clearly underachieved. Will he be happy when next season rolls around? Stay tuned.
Giants sign Sorgi to back up Eli
The Giants announced that QB Jim Sorgi, who has been Peyton Manning’s backup for the past six seasons, now will compete to be the No. 2 behind Eli Manning in New York.

Signing of Rolle speaks volumes about Phillips

The New York Giants have agreed to a five-year deal with Beatty, who could have become a free agent.|||||||
Beatty is entering his fifth season with the Giants. He played in all 16 games last season after missing much of training camp with a sore back. Beatty was a second-round pick in 2009 from Connecticut. He has played in 50 games with the Giants. He's made four starts at left tackle, four at right tackle and one as an extra tight end.
New York Giants left tackle Will Beatty is scheduled to have surgery on Thanksgiving to repair a detached retina in his right eye. The Giants disclosed the injury late Wednesday afternoon, saying there is no timetable for Beatty's return. He has started at left tackle all season.|||||||
Beatty, bothered by back spasms last week, was hurt Sunday night in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He developed blurriness in his eye as the week progressed and the detached retina was diagnosed. The most obvious solution for the Giants (6-4) on Monday night at New Orleans would be to switch guard David Diehl back to left tackle, a position he played for four years. Backup Kevin Boothe can play every position on the line and he usually takes over after an injury.
Beatty has been activated for the New York Giants' game against the Cowboys.|||||||
It's the first time he's dressed for a game since breaking his right foot in the season opener.
The Giants signed second-round pick Beatty on Thursday.|||||||
Contract terms were not immediately available for Beatty, an offensive tackle from Connecticut who was the 60th pick.
