Svitek is a seven-year veteran who spent three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and the past four with the Atlanta Falcons. He was on injured reserve all last year with an arm injury. Svitek has played in 61 games with 16 starts since being drafted by the Chiefs in the sixth round in 2005 out of Stanford. Kansas City released him at the end of training camp in 2008. He was out of the NFL that year, then signed with Atlanta on Feb. 12, 2009.
The Atlanta Falcons have lost offensive tackle Will Svitek to a season-ending right arm injury. Coach Mike Smith said Monday that Svitek suffered an upper right arm injury in Sunday's practice. Smith provided no other details about the injury.|||||||
Svitek played behind starting left tackle Sam Baker and starting right tackle Tyson Clabo in the Falcons' two preseason games. The 30-year-old Svitek started 10 games at left tackle in 2011. He was entering his fourth season with the Falcons after three seasons with Kansas City.
Svitek replaced Chris Terry as the starting right tackle for Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans.|||||||
Svitek will make his second NFL start and his first at right tackle. He could see a lot more action in the final three weeks of the season because the Chiefs terminated Terry's contract on Sunday.
Coach Herm Edwards said Svitek, a former sixth-round draft choice and converted defensive lineman, will take over as the starter at left tackle for the injured Damion McIntosh.|||||||
