The New Orleans Saints re-signed Herring to a one-year contract Thursday.||||||| Herring was released earlier this month. Acquired as a free agent in 2011, he played in all 16 games last season, starting one, and was credited with 13 tackles and one forced fumble. In two seasons with New Orleans, the former Auburn standout has played on special teams, while also providing depth at linebacker.

A person familiar with the situation said Herring was being released by the Saints after two seasons with the club. Herring said on Twitter that he appreciated his time in New Orleans.||||||| Herring, acquired as a free agent in 2011, played in all 16 games last season, starting one, and was credited with 13 tackles and one forced fumble.

The Saints have placed Herring on injured reserve, ending his season.||||||| Herring hobbled off the field favoring his right knee against Carolina last Sunday and coach Sean Payton says the linebacker has a sprained medial collateral ligament. Herring, a reserve, was credited with five tackles on defense and four on special teams.

Herring has been added to the Seahawks' active roster for the first time this season.||||||| Herring had been on the physically unable to perform list with a condition that was causing chronic muscle pulls. The special teams standout and linebacker - a fifth-round draft choice in 2007 - played 12 games last season.

Seattle placed Herring on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. The fifth-round draft choice in 2007, who played 12 games last season, has had a condition that is causing chronic joint inflammation. Team doctors have been trying to find the most effective way to treat the peculiar condition.||||||| Herring could return to practice between the sixth and ninth weeks of the regular season. The Seahawks would then have to activate him to the roster within 21 days of him returning to practice in order for Herring to play this season.
