The Raiders need all the healthy bodies they can get. The defense is already minus four starters from the opening day lineup, including middle linebacker Rolando McClain, who returned this week following a two-game team suspension. Oakland has dropped six straight and is trying to avoid losing 11 or more games for the eighth time in the last 10 years.

A person familiar with the decision says the Oakland Raiders and Branch have agreed to a new four-year contract that gives the franchise financial flexibility and the team's leading tackler the stability he has wanted.|||||||
The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because the deal had not been officially announced, said Branch was out of the country Saturday and both sides were working to finish the paperwork. CBS Sports reported the deal is worth $26.6 million with $17.1 million guaranteed.
Branch has signed his $6.2 million dollar franchise tag tender and reported to workouts with the Oakland Raiders. Branch was a fourth-round pick out of Connecticut in 2008. He has started every game the past three seasons and led the Raiders in tackles the past two years.|||||||
The Raiders placed the tag on Branch on March 1. He decided to sign it Monday and joined the team for the offseason program. The two sides are still hoping to reach a long-term deal that would give the Raiders more salary cap room and Branch more stability.
