Thigpen has accepted a $1 million pay cut, restructuring his contract to improve his chances of staying on the team. The Buffalo Bills backup quarterback confirmed the move Monday, a day after first reported he took a pay cut.||||||| Thigpen said there were several reasons behind the decision, and added he was glad to still be in Buffalo. He's now scheduled to make a base salary of $1.5 million this season in the second year of a three-year contract. Thigpen's future in Buffalo remains in question as he's competing for the backup spot with Tarvaris Jackson, who was acquired from Seattle last week. In their final cuts Friday, the Bills kept Thigpen because he's more familiar with the offense.

Tyler Thigpen will get a majority of the playing time in the Buffalo Bills' preseason finale. The No. 2 quarterback job is among several unsettled positions before the Bills set the 53-player roster Friday. Gailey said about 80 percent of his roster is already set, leaving about seven players on the bubble.||||||| It is Thigpen's final shot to win the backup job, and the newly acquired Tarvaris Jackson will take over in the fourth quarter of Buffalo's game at Detroit on Thursday. Jackson will be judged on his potential as well, coach Chan Gailey said Tuesday. Buffalo acquired Jackson in a trade with Seattle on Monday.

Thigpen, pressed into duty after Chad Pennington and Chad Henne were hurt in Sunday's game, finished 17 for 29 for 187 yards in Thursday's 16-0 loss to the Bears.||||||| Thigpen had 27 of the Dolphins' 39 yards rushing, but was sacked six times and found himself scrambling often and fell to 1-11 as an NFL starter. "Offensively we couldn't get out of our own way," Thigpen said. "We would get one thing going, and then we'd get one thing to set us back."

Thigpen took practice snaps running the Miami Dolphins' offense for the first time this season Tuesday, while Chad Henne sat out the team's only workout in preparation for Thursday night's game against the Chicago Bears.||||||| Thigpen is likely to make his first NFL start since 2008, when he was with Kansas City. Coach Tony Sparano wants the Bears wondering who will play quarterback, and he declined to rule out Henne's availability.
