Edwards beat out Mike Kafka for the third-string quarterback job with the Philadelphia Eagles.||||||| Edwards, a 28-year-old veteran, had an impressive month after sitting out 2011. He completed 54 of 80 passes (68 percent) for 489 yards, with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

Edwards and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed on a one-year contract. Edwards hasn't played in the NFL since 2010. The deal was announced Thursday.||||||| The 28-year-old Edwards is expected to be Michael Vick's backup, a role held by Vince Young last year. Edwards started 32 games for Buffalo and one for Jacksonville in four seasons, going 14-19. He completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 6,019 yards and 26 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.

Edwards is likely to start in David Garrard's place against Houston, essentially giving the former Buffalo Bills starter an audition with Jacksonville.||||||| Garrard will miss the season finale at Houston because of a finger injury. Edwards previously replaced Garrard when he left a Monday night game against the Titans in mid-October with a concussion.
