Wharton severely damaged his right knee on Cincinnati's first series of the preseason opener against the Jets, forcing him to leave the field on a cart.
Wharton hurt his right knee on Cincinnati's third play of the game and left the field on a cart.|||||||
Wharton went down while pass blocking during the Bengals' first possession of a preseason game against the New York Jets. He rolled over in pain and stayed down for several minutes while trainers checked his knee. He didn't put any weight on the leg as he was helped to a cart and taken for tests.

The 6-foot-4, 312-pound Wharton started all 99 games in which he played with the Panthers. In 16 games last season, he started 15 at left guard and one at left tackle on an offense sparked by top overall draft pick Cam Newton. Newton won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. A third-round draft selection in 2004, Wharton could replace Nate Livings, who signed with Dallas.
