The Chicago Bears have agreed to a one-year contract with Zbikowski.|||||||
The Notre Dame alum and professional boxer has appeared in 64 games with 25 starts over five seasons with Indianapolis in 2012 and with Baltimore from 2008 to 2011. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Zbikowski recorded 89 tackles, three interceptions, eight pass break-ups and two sacks during those seasons.
The Colts have released Zbikowski after one season with the team. When the Colts signed Pro Bowl safety LaRon Landry to a four-year, $24 million contract late Wednesday night, Zbikowski became expendable.|||||||
The Notre Dame alum and professional boxer followed coach Chuck Pagano and teammates Brandon McKinney and Cory Redding from Baltimore to Indy last season. He started 11 games, finishing with 47 tackles, one sack and one interception while returning six kickoffs for 123 yards.
Zbikowski returned to start Sunday's playoff game against his former team.|||||||
Zbikowski had not played since Nov. 25.
On Saturday, the team signed Zbikowski. The safety is the second former Baltimore player to join new coach Chuck Pagano in Indianapolis. Details of the contract were not immediately available.|||||||
The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder played the past four seasons in Baltimore. He has 49 career tackles, two interceptions, one sack and 58 special teams tackles since joining the NFL. He played in college at Notre Dame.
An adviser to Zbikowski says the Baltimore Ravens safety is disputing a positive drug test administered after a weekend boxing match in Oklahoma.|||||||
Zbikowski fought Saturday at the WinStar World Casino, knocking out Blake Warner of Oklahoma City in the first round and improving his record to 4-0. Sixteen fighters underwent drug tests and five of them came back positive. A tribal spokeswoman says the Chickasaw Nation Gaming Commission suspended those fighters for 45 days. Zbikowski's manager, Mike Joyce of Chicago, says he's been told Zbikowski tested positive for traces of a substance found in marijuana.
