McClure will officially announce his retirement at a news conference Monday after spending his entire 14-year career with the Atlanta Falcons.|||||||
McClure was a seventh-round pick out of LSU in 1999 and went on to become one of the team's most durable players. He set a franchise record with 148 consecutive starts and missed only four games over the last dozen seasons. While McClure had hoped to play another year or two, the team is looking to build a younger roster after losing to San Francisco in the NFC championship game.
The Atlanta Falcons and McClure have agreed to terms on a one-year contract. The team made the announcement Tuesday.|||||||
McClure, who will return for his 14th season with the Falcons, had his franchise-best streak of 144 consecutive starts ended when a knee injury forced him to miss last year's season-opening loss at Chicago. He returned to start the 14 of the next 15 games.
McClure left Sunday's game against Seattle with a knee injury and didn't return.|||||||
McClure was replaced by Joe Hawley.
