Newman left Sunday's game against Kansas City with a concussion.|||||||
Newman was diagnosed with a concussion in the third quarter. The Bengals were already playing without safety Reggie Nelson (hamstring) in the defensive backfield.
Newman has been released by the Dallas Cowboys after nine seasons as a starter.|||||||
The team announced the move Tuesday, minutes after free agency began. Newman, who went to the Pro Bowl in 2007 and 2009, started 131 of his 133 games after the Cowboys took him with the fifth overall pick in 2003 out of Kansas State. He leaves with 558 career tackles and 32 interceptions.
Newman is inactive for the Week 2 game at San Francisco.|||||||
Newman got hurt in practice when he got tangled with a receiver during pass coverage drills. He later posted on his Twitter account, "A little groin pull and be back for the jets!" Newman was wrong, however.

After staying on the ground briefly, Newman slowly walked across the field to the sideline, where he crouched before being tended to by a trainer. He left the field shortly after that. An MRI was planned to determine the severity of the injury.
