The San Diego Chargers have released Spikes in their first major move under new general manager Tom Telesco.||||||| The 36-year-old Spikes has played 15 NFL seasons, including the last two with San Diego. He has started 215 of his 219 career games played, including all 32 with the Chargers. He has 1,737 career tackles, including 218 with the Chargers. Spikes has never been on a playoff team. He earlier played with Cincinnati, Buffalo, Philadelphia and San Francisco. The Chargers missed the playoffs the last three seasons.

Spikes and Oakland running back Mike Goodson have been ejected after a skirmish in the second quarter of Sunday's game.||||||| Spikes had to be restrained by field judge Scott Edwards from going after referee John Parry. As he was leaving the field, Spikes took off his helmet and flung it. Teammate Melvin Ingram caught it.

Spikes is active for the San Francisco 49ers' game with the Jacksonville Jaguars after recovering from a hamstring injury.||||||| Spikes missed last week's 30-24 loss at Green Bay and was replaced by Matt Wilhelm. Spikes strained his left hamstring just before halftime of a win over the Chicago Bears on Nov. 12 and hadn't played since.

The 49ers waived veteran linebacker Brandon Moore on Sunday, opening a roster spot that could go to Spikes. Spikes was due at 49ers headquarters Sunday afternoon for a physical.||||||| Spikes spent 10 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles. His season with the Eagles last year ended with a torn rotator cuff in the 14th game. He finished with 85 tackles, including 63 solo stops, and one sack. If Spikes signs with the 49ers, he's likely to start alongside the NFL's reigning defensive rookie of the year Patrick Willis at inside linebacker in the team's 3-4 defense.
