The Dallas Cowboys have released quarterback Stephen McGee from their 53-man roster and claimed tight end Colin Cochart off waivers from Cincinnati.||||||| The moves were announced Saturday as the Cowboys started practice four days before their season opener at the New York Giants.

McGee took over for an injured Tony Romo on Saturday in a 20-7 loss to Philly.||||||| McGee was 24 of 38 for 182 yards and one score. He led Dallas to a Week 17 win over the Eagles last season so Philly earned a measure of revenge.

In his first NFL start, McGee threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten with 55 seconds left to lead the Dallas Cowboys to a 14-13 victory over the NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.||||||| The rookie's 238 yards, two TDs and no interceptions in two games is good enough for Dallas to perhaps trust him next season should Tony Romo endure another injury.

Jon Kitna is listed as questionable for the Dallas Cowboys' season finale. Kitna did not practice again Friday, increasing the odds that McGee will make the first start of his NFL career Sunday in Philadelphia.||||||| McGee nearly led Dallas to victory last weekend at Arizona.
