Merriman is calling it "Lights Out" on his career, announcing on his website that he plans to retire.||||||| Merriman wrote he is electing to retire on his own terms, saying he will "leave while I know I can still physically play the game." Merriman's decision comes a week before he was eligible to become a free agent, and after spending parts of the past three seasons in Buffalo. Last year, he was cut by the Bills in August before re-signing with them in October. He's a three-time Pro Bowl selection and the NFL's 2005 defensive rookie of the year.

Merriman is back in Buffalo after the Bills re-signed the free-agent pass-rushing star to bolster their banged-up defense.||||||| The Bills (3-3) announced the signing Monday, after returning home from an extended West Coast trip, and a day after a 19-16 overtime win at Arizona. Merriman returns to the Bills two months after the team cut the three-time Pro Bowl selection in part because it wanted to develop several younger players. Buffalo's priorities have since changed after the team's depth has been depleted at defensive end.

It's lights out for Merriman in Buffalo after the Bills cut the one-time star pass-rusher.||||||| The move was announced by the team in a one-sentence news release issued late Monday morning as the Bills prepared to return to practice following a two-day break. Merriman considered this year as the best chance to revive his career after season-ending surgery in November to repair a partially torn right Achilles tendon. It's an injury that had nagged him for much of the previous two seasons.

Merriman is feeling good following his first practice in nearly eight months.||||||| It was his first practice since having season-ending surgery to repair both a partially torn Achilles tendon and a shoulder injury last November. And it came two days after he received a clean bill of health from a specialist who performed the operation on the Achilles.
