The New York Giants have re-signed Rogers. The Giants announced the move on Thursday, just a day after releasing running back Ahmad Bradshaw and defensive tackle Chris Canty, and two days after cutting linebacker Michael Boley.|||||||
Rogers missed last season after developing a blood clot in his leg following a preseason game against Jacksonville. He had been signed as a free agent in April. Rogers has played with Detroit, Cleveland and New Orleans, recording 602 tackles, 37 1/2 sacks, 27 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries and an interception return for a touchdown. He has also blocked 14 field-goal attempts.
Despite developing a blood clot in his left leg a little more than a week ago, there is a chance Rogers might play this season.|||||||
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Tuesday that the 12-year-veteran got a second opinion about his injury, and the team has "a ray of hope" that Rogers will be able to get back on the field. Rogers reported swelling in his leg two days after the Giants played their preseason opener against Jacksonville on Aug. 12. Tests revealed a blood clot, and Coughlin said Rogers wouldn't play this season because he would have to take blood-thinning medication.

The Giants announced Tuesday that the 12-year veteran was seen by orthopedic surgeon Russell Warren and vascular surgeon John Karwowaki on Monday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
