The Redskins on Tuesday agreed to a two-year deal Rocca, the 39-year-old former Australian rules football player who has played two seasons in Washington.|||||||
The Redskins are traditionally an active player in free agency, but they have little money to spend because of a $36 million salary cap penalty imposed by the NFL for the way they structured contracts during the 2010 uncapped season. The second half of the penalty took effect Tuesday at the formal start of the new league year.
The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed Rocca to a one-year contract. Rocca had been the team's last unsigned restricted free agent. The deal was announced Thursday.|||||||
The 36-year-old Rocca had a franchise-best 38.3 yards net average in 2009, breaking his single-season record of 37.9 set in 2008. He has averaged 42.6 gross yards per punt in his three seasons in Philadelphia while sending 74 punts inside the 20-yard line. Rocca played 15 years in the Australian Football League before joining the Eagles.
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed punter Durant Brooks to a two-year contract, giving the incumbent Rocca some competition.|||||||
Rocca has been Philadelphia's punter the last three seasons, but he had a net average of 38.3 yards per punt last season.
