Kalil was injured in Carolina's 16-12 loss to Seattle, although he continued playing. Kalil went to see Dr. James Anderson on Tuesday and it was determined he had a Lisfranc injury, having torn a ligament that supports the middle of his foot.
Kalil has signed his one-year tender worth more than $10 million. Team spokesman Charlie Dayton confirmed the move on Thursday, two days after the Panthers placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Kalil. If the current rules exist in the new collective bargaining agreement, another team would've had to surrender two first-round picks to sign the two-time Pro Bowl selection.|||||||
The franchise tag has been a point of contention with the current labor deal expiring next week. But Kalil's decision to sign gives him $10 million guaranteed.
The Carolina Panthers have placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Kalil, a move that will help keep the core of the offensive line intact but will also make two other key players unrestricted free agents.|||||||
Kalil will be offered a one-year, guaranteed deal worth more than $10 million. If the current franchise tag rules remain under the new labor deal, another team could sign Kalil only by giving Carolina two first-round draft picks. The 25-year-old Kalil made his second straight Pro Bowl this season.
Carolina was again without Kalil and right tackle Jeff Otah for Sunday's game against Arizona. Both linemen have been sidelined with right ankle injuries.|||||||
The team hopes both Otah and Kalil will be back on the field when the Panthers resume play Nov. 9 at Oakland after getting two extra weeks of rest. Otah has missed the last three games and Kalil the previous two with ankle injuries.
