Clark says he didn't put up a fight when coach Mike Tomlin told Clark he couldn't play in Sunday's wild card game at Denver because of a blood condition that becomes aggravated when playing at altitude.|||||||
Clark called his talk with Tomlin on Monday "one-sided" and added he didn't protest because Tomlin isn't the kind of coach who changes his mind. Clark nearly died in 2007 following a game in Denver when the sickle-cell trait he suffers from flared up. He lost his spleen and gall bladder in addition to losing 30 pounds.
Less than three weeks after linebacker James Harrison made some inflammatory comments about the NFL commissioner to Men's Journal magazine, Clark criticized the power Goodell holds, particularly when it comes to disciplining players.|||||||
Clark took issue when he was asked if he had spoken to Steelers president Art Rooney II about lobbying Goodell on the players' behalf. "I'm talking about the commissioner - not my owner," Clark said. "Our owner is a good owner." The line of questioning ultimately led to Clark to become agitated with the reporter who asked it, a Pittsburgh radio talk-show host. The two exchanged words and stood chest-to-chest before team personnel and players broke it up.
Clark will sit out Sunday's exhibition game in Denver because playing at a high altitude can trigger a red blood cell condition that caused him to lose his spleen and gall bladder after a 2007 game there.|||||||
Clark also didn't play in the Steelers' regular season game in Denver last season. He does plan to run before Sunday night's game, as he did last year, to test his reaction to being in the mile-high atmosphere. Clark became seriously ill after playing in Denver on Oct. 21, 2007, losing more than 20 pounds and missing the rest of the season. He returned to play without problems in 2008 and 2009, and he re-signed with Pittsburgh after last season.

Clark agreed to a $14 million, four-year contract after the Steelers were unable to sign him before the free agency signing period began Friday. Clark reached terms after visiting the Miami Dolphins on Monday and talking with the Arizona Cardinals.

Clark arrived Sunday in South Florida and will meet with Dolphins officials Monday, said his agent, Joel Turner. The Dolphins are in the market to replace safety Gibril Wilson, released Friday after one disappointing season in Miami.
