Peyton Manning's blindside protector will get a big pay raise next season. The Denver Broncos placed their franchise tag on Clady on Friday, ensuring the three-time Pro Bowler a salary of $9.828 million in 2013.|||||||
That's almost triple the $3.5 million Clady made last season when he allowed just one sack in more than 1,100 snaps during Manning's bounce-back season in Denver. The Broncos are hoping to work out a long-term deal with Clady before training camp, though. Last summer, he rejected a five-year, $50 million offer that included $28 million in guarantees.
Clady has withdrawn from the Pro Bowl because of an injury, presumably the balky shoulder that bothered him during the Denver Broncos' first-round bye but which didn't prevent him from playing in their loss to Baltimore.|||||||
Clady will be replaced by Cincinnati Bengals tackle Andrew Whitworth.
Clady was selected to the AFC's Pro Bowl roster.|||||||
Clady is one of five Broncos to make the team, joining Peyton Manning, Von Miller, Champ Bailey and Elvis Dumervil.
Clady won't be breaking the bank anytime soon. The Denver Broncos and the two-time Pro Bowl left tackle who will protect Peyton Manning's blind side ended talks Monday on a contract extension until after the 2012 season.|||||||
John Elway told The Denver Post that negotiations hit an impasse. So, Clady will make $3.5 million this season. The Broncos had reportedly offered the fifth-year pro $50 million over five years with $28 million guaranteed. In free agency next year, Clady and his agent, Pat Dye, can seek a deal more in line with Cleveland's Joe Thomas, whose deal averages $11.5 million a season, although the Broncos could put the franchise tag on him.
Clady could play in Thursday's preseason finale against Minnesota.|||||||
