James, from Arizona State, was a fifth-round pick by the Falcons in 2008. He missed his rookie season with a concussion. James' suspension begins with the Falcons' Sept. 12 opener at Pittsburgh. He will be eligible for the Oct. 10 game at Cleveland.

Lingering symptoms from a concussion have forced James to be shut down for the season by the Atlanta Falcons.||||||| The Falcons waived James, a fifth-round draft pick from Arizona State, on Tuesday after a specialist determined the linebacker was not recovering from a concussion as well as expected.

The Falcons signed James on Tuesday.||||||| James, a fifth-round pick, on Tuesday became the ninth of the team's 11 draft picks to sign. Financial terms were not disclosed. The 5-foot-11, 218-pound James had 174 tackles in four seasons at Arizona State. He was chosen the team's most valuable defensive player after setting a career high with 108 as a senior.
