A first-round pick out of Tennessee and the 18th overall selection by the Broncos a year ago, Ayers recovered a fumble and returned it a team rookie record 54 yards for a touchdown Nov. 9 against Pittsburgh. But he heads into his second season still looking for his first career sack. "Last year is last year and I've moved on from that," Ayers said Monday.
The Denver Broncos signed Ayers to a five-year deal Monday, leaving Knowshon Moreno, the team's top pick, as the only unsigned player from their 10-member draft class.|||||||
Ayers was on the field before the evening practice session running sprints. He then headed into the locker room as his teammates made their way out. The Broncos used their 18th selection to take Ayers, a defensive end out of Tennessee. With the Broncos implementing a 3-4 scheme, Ayers will play a hybrid role as he alternates between the line and linebacker.
Ayers and Knowshon Moreno missed the official start of Denver Broncos' training camp in Englewood, Colo., on Friday. They're the first rookie holdouts in Denver since running back Tatem Bell showed up late in 2004.|||||||
Ayers, a pass-rusher from Tennessee, was the 18th selection and Moreno, a running back from Georgia, was the 12th overall pick in the draft. Both remain unsigned.
