The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with Bironas, keeping him off the free agent market and with the team he has spent the past eight seasons.|||||||
The Titans announced the deal Thursday. NFL.com and The Tennessean both report the deal is for two years. Bironas, 35, ranks as the third most accurate kicker in NFL history, connecting on 85.6 percent of his attempts. He trails only Al Del Greco as the franchise's leading scorer with 916 points.
Bironas kicked his fourth field goal, a 40-yarder as time expired, and the Titans beat the Steelers 26-23 on Thursday night to snap a two-game skid.|||||||
Still one of the league's best, Bironas also had field goals of 22 and 38 yards in the first quarter, and his 47-yarder on the final play of the first half gave Tennessee a 16-10 lead.

Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt said Wednesday in announcing the deal that Bironas is one of the best kickers in the NFL. In four seasons, Bironas has made 84.5 percent of his field-goal attempts. He's among the NFL leaders with 59 touchbacks on kickoffs. Last season, Bironas was 29-of-33 on field-goal attempts and accounted for 127 points. The Titans originally signed him as a free agent in 2005.
Bironas was held out of practice on Thursday after missing the entire preseason with a strained groin on his kicking leg. He said on Thursday that Titans coach Jeff Fisher gave him a day off to rest as he begins getting ready for the season opener.|||||||
Bironas said he is likely to practice on Friday and expects to kick on Sunday. He made 35 of 39 field goals last season.
