Hodges, one of the AFC's best punters last season, tore his Achilles tendon Tuesday and will be out for the season. Team president Mike Holmgren said he would have surgery.|||||||
Hodges fell without being touched after catching a snap in the back of the end zone during punting drills. He was attended to for several minutes by trainers before being driven to the team's training facility. Hodges covered his face with a towel as he went for tests and treatment. Hodges averaged 43.9 yards on 78 punts last season. The Browns have no other punters in camp.
The Browns signed free agent punter Reggie Hodges in case Dave Zastudil can't kick in Monday night's game against Baltimore. Zastudil has been bothered by a sore right knee and was limited in practice all week. The team listed him as questionable - a 50 percent chance of playing - on the injury report.|||||||
The Browns worked out several punters on Friday and decided to sign Hodges, who appeared in four games this season for Tennessee. Hodges has also played for St. Louis, Philadelphia and the New York Jets. He was waived by the Titans on Oct. 27.

Hodges punted in 12 games last season for the Jets after replacing Ben Graham. He has a career 42.8 yard average on 44 punts in 20 NFL games.
Hodges has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles. In three games since taking over for the injured Dirk Johnson, the punter averaged just 36.8 yards on 19 boots. He will be replaced on the roster by Nick Murphy.|||||||
Hodges has been cut twice this season. He averaged 38.0 yards on 22 punts in five games with the St. Louis Rams before getting the ax.
