Wednesday's move was essentially a formality. Doughty had little choice but to sign the tendered contract after the signing period for restricted free agents ended April 15. He has already been a regular participant in offseason minicamps and workouts. Doughty was a sixth-round pick in 2006. He has played in 45 games with 16 starts over four seasons. He returned from back surgery in 2008 to play in 15 games last year, starting nine.

Doughty has a hearing deficiency that requires him to wear hearing aids at meetings and rely on hand signals and lip-reading while on the field.
