The case against Starks has been resolved with the charges being reduced to a misdemeanor traffic violation. Court papers show Starks will pay a $219 fine and take eight hours of mandatory traffic classes. He originally faced a felony charge of aggravated battery against a police officer.|||||||
Miami Beach police say Starks was driving a large truck packed with people along Ocean Drive last Memorial Day weekend when an officer came up alongside. Starks allegedly swerved slightly, striking the officer and pinning him against another vehicle. The officer wasn't injured. Starks pleaded no contest to a charge of failure to use due care.
Prosecutors have dropped felony charges against Starks stemming from a May traffic altercation with police. Court records show charges of aggravated battery were reduced Tuesday to the misdemeanor of culpable negligence. The original charge carried a possible prison sentence of five years, but misdemeanors usually do not result in jail time.|||||||

Starks has been charged with using his truck to hit a police officer who tried to stop the vehicle on foot. Miami Beach Police say the officer tried to stop the 25-year-old player when he was driving a truck packed with 13 people early Sunday in heavy traffic. They say the vehicle was meant for four people.|||||||
Police say Starks kept slowly moving forward even as the officer was beside the truck. They say Starks swerved the vehicle slightly, hitting the officer in the chest and pinning him against another vehicle. The officer wasn't injured, but Starks was charged with aggravated battery. Starks remained in a Miami jail Sunday afternoon. A message left at his agent's office was not immediately returned.
Starks signed a five-year contract with Miami.|||||||
The 6-3, 312-pound Starks has spent the past four seasons with Tennessee, where he had 226 tackles.
