Moss is back after reaching a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers, announced by the team late Monday. ESPN first reported the move a day before the start of the free agency period.||||||| Moss will fill a big void for the reigning NFC West champions. The 35-year-old Moss worked out with the 49ers earlier in the day - and former NFL quarterback and current coach Jim Harbaugh participated. Moss, who worked out last Tuesday with the New Orleans Saints, spent a year out of football and last played for New England, Minnesota and Tennessee during a rocky 2010 season

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says the club has held a workout with Moss, who is trying to make a comeback after spending a year out of football.||||||| The Saints are not releasing details about the 35-year-old Moss' workout, but New Orleans may be in the market for a receiver this offseason because two of quarterback Drew Brees' regular targets, Marques Colston and Robert Meachem, are entering free agency. The 6-foot-4 Moss last played in the NFL in 2010, a turbulent season for him in which he bounced from New England to Minnesota and then to Tennessee.

Moss is calling it a career after 13 seasons in the NFL as one of the most dynamic and polarizing players the league has ever seen. Moss's agent, Joel Segal, said Monday that the receiver was considering offers from several teams, but made the decision to retire. Segal declined to comment specifically on the offers, instead saying his client felt the time was right to step away.||||||| Moss caught 954 passes for 14,858 yards and 153 touchdowns in a career spent with Minnesota, Oakland, New England and Tennessee. The 34-year-old Moss bounced around the league in his final season, getting traded from the Patriots to the Vikings last season before he was cut and signed with the Titans.
