The Seattle Seahawks have completed their trade with Minnesota to acquire Harvin in exchange for a trio of draft picks. Seattle announced the finalization of the trade on Tuesday afternoon once the NFL's league year began. Harvin passed his physical and will be introduced at the team's facility later Tuesday.|||||||
The 24-year-old Harvin will give second-year quarterback Russell Wilson a dynamic playmaker not yet at his peak and reunite him with former teammate Sidney Rice and former offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.
A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to trade the unhappy receiver to Seattle for a package that includes the Seahawks' first-round draft pick in April.|||||||
Harvin was unhappy with his contract and his role in the Vikings' struggling passing offense. He missed the final six games last season with an ankle injury. He obviously is still among the NFL's most versatile players, but only if he's geeting the ball enough.
Vikings general manager Rick Spielman can't say it enough: Percy Harvin will remain in Minnesota, and he's not going to discuss contracts in public. Six days after initially telling local reporters exactly that, Spielman came to the NFL's annual scouting combine and was asked to address the situation again. He hasn't budged.|||||||
Spielman says he has no intent to deal the receiver he calls a "dynamic playmaker" and won't even take phone calls about it. He intends to keep all information about contract negotiations internal, too, as he describes. There has been speculation the Vikings might deal Harvin, whose contract is up after next season, or that Harvin may hold out to get a new, richer contract.
Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman says the team has "no intent" of trading Harvin.|||||||
Spielman refused Friday to comment specifically on contracts. He said team officials, as always, will meet next week at the NFL scouting combine with the agents for every player. He declined to address the possibility of negotiating a new deal for Harvin. Harvin will enter the final year of his contract in 2013.
Minnesota general manager Rick Spielman says the organization has no concerns about Harvin's character or attitude, with a pivotal offseason ahead for the wide receiver's future with the Vikings.|||||||
Spielman told reporters Thursday the team has "no issues" with Harvin, that he "plays the game as hard, or harder, than anyone else in the NFL." Harvin is entering the final year of his rookie contract. His season ended after nine games because of a badly sprained left ankle. The Vikings placed him on injured reserve one month after he was hurt, and Harvin went home to Florida for his rehabilitation.
