Turner, a former college teammate of quarterback Mark Sanchez at Southern California, had 10 catches for 122 yards and a touchdown in 21 games over two-plus seasons for the Jets. There's a chance New York could re-sign him if he passes through waivers.
A person familiar with the deal says the New York Jets have re-signed wide receiver Patrick Turner to a one-year contract.|||||||
The deal, agreed upon about 10 days ago, is worth $875,000 with a $250,000 signing bonus. The 24-year-old Turner was scheduled to become a restricted free agent next month. A former college teammate of quarterback Mark Sanchez at Southern California, Turner had eight catches for 96 yards and a touchdown last season. The Jets claimed him off waivers in 2010 from Miami, where Turner played under newly hired New York offensive coordinator Tony Sparano.
The New York Jets have signed Turner from the practice squad to help fill in for Jerricho Cotchery, who is sidelined with a tear in his left groin.|||||||
The team has also signed former New England linebacker Shawn Crable and defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert to the practice squad Friday. New York has also released cornerback Will Billingsley from the practice squad. Turner, claimed off waivers from Miami in September, played in one game with the Jets before being waived and was then signed to New York's practice squad.
