The Jets have cut veteran kicker Josh Brown, giving Folk the job after a tight competition.|||||||
Folk, entering his third season with the Jets, was re-signed in March after going 19 for 25. Both were solid in the preseason, with Folk going 4 for 4 and Brown 3 for 4, but Folk was more consistent throughout training camp. Folk beat out Nick Novak last summer.
The Jets have re-signed kicker Nick Folk, who spent the last two years with the team. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.|||||||
Folk, a former Pro Bowl selection with Dallas, converted 19 of 25 field-goal attempts last season, but three of those misses were from 50 yards or more. Folk was signed by the Jets in 2010 after three seasons with the Cowboys. After struggling a bit in his first training camp with New York, Folk was solid while setting the franchise mark with a career-best 56-yard field goal. He set a team record by making his first 11 field-goal attempts.

Folk wrote on his Twitter page Wednesday night that he's "Happy to be headed back to Jersey on Friday." New York also has veteran kicker Nick Novak on the roster.

The signing of Folk to a one-year contract Tuesday gives the Jets some insurance if incumbent Jay Feely, who'll be an unrestricted free agent, isn't re-signed. Folk made the Pro Bowl as a rookie with the Cowboys in 2007, but was cut last season when he made just 18 of 28 field-goal attempts. Folk could also provide competition in camp if the Jets do re-sign Feely, who was 30 for 36 on field-goal attempts this past season.
Folk will work out for the Giants, according to a report by the New York Daily News. He may also work out for the Jets.|||||||
New York's Lawrence Tynes made 27 of 32 field goals last season, but was woeful on kickoffs. Folk is a former Pro Bowler who was cut by the NFC East champion Cowboys in December. Folk, however, is not strong on kickoffs and did not even handle those duties for the Cowboys.
