The Detroit Lions have put Fairley on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.|||||||
The 2011 first-round pick started seven of 13 games, had 5 1/2 sacks and 35 tackles after a lackluster rookie year. Earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to DUI and reckless driving and was sentenced to a six-month suspended jail term, a year of probation and a $600 fine. He hopes a pretrial diversion program will allow those charges to be dismissed.
A Mobile municipal judge has dismissed a misdemeanor marijuana charge against Fairley.|||||||
Defense attorney Sid Harrell said the charge was dismissed on Tuesday. Judge Matt Greene agreed with prosecutors that there wasn't enough evidence to show partially smoked marijuana cigarettes found in Fairley's vehicle on April 3 belonged to the former first-round pick out of Auburn. Harrell says Fairley passed a drug test Tuesday, is tested several times a week by the NFL and has passed them all.
A lawyer for Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley says he will ask that the player be allowed to participate in a pre-trial diversion program instead of facing a trial on charges in Alabama. Fairley is charged with driving under the influence and attempting to elude police.|||||||
Attorney Sid Harrell says that if Fairley completes the diversion program by taking an anti-DUI course, he expects the charges to be dropped. Fairley was arrested in Mobile County on May 27 after a state trooper said he was traveling at 100 mph in his Cadillac Escalade and initially didn't pull over. He also faces a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge Nov. 27 in his hometown of Mobile. Fairley was a 2011 first-round pick after helping lead Auburn to a BCS title.
Fairley's court hearing on charges including driving under the influence and attempting to elude police has been pushed back to Sept. 26.|||||||
Mobile, Ala., County District Judge George Hardesty Jr. granted defense attorney Sid Harrell's request for a delay on Friday. Fairley earlier had a hearing on a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge in Mobile Municipal Court continued until Nov. 27.
Fairley is publicly apologizing for his recent arrests in Alabama.|||||||
Fairley says his "actions were inexcusable." Writing Friday on Facebook, he says he needs to meet the high standards of being a professional athlete. Fairley was arrested in Mobile County, Ala., on May 27 after a state trooper said he was traveling at 100 mph in his Cadillac Escalade. He was cited for reckless driving, no proof of insurance and open container. Fairley also was arrested April 3 in Mobile, Ala., for possessing marijuana.
