The Buffalo Bills have begun reshaping their defense under new coach Doug Marrone by releasing two veterans: linebacker Nick Barnett and safety George Wilson. The shake-up takes place a little over a month since Marrone took over after Chan Gailey was fired following three losing seasons.||||||| General manager Buddy Nix said the cuts were made Monday with the intention of moving the team forward and freeing up spots to allow Buffalo's younger players to step into those roles. Barnett is a 10-year NFL veteran, who never missed a start in his two seasons in Buffalo after signing with the team in free agency.

Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey expects Barnett to play against Seattle this weekend despite holding the starting linebacker out from practice for a second straight day.||||||| Gailey said Thursday that Barnett's sore knee is not healing as quickly as expected. But, Gailey added, he has no reservations of Barnett playing on Sunday, when the Bills (5-8) "host" the Seahawks (8-5) at Toronto. Barnett has not missed a game this season, and it's unclear when he was hurt.

Barnett expects to play this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles despite being held out of practice because of a sore right ankle.||||||| Barnett doesn't think the injury "is too serious" and expects to return to practice in the next few days. He rolled his ankle in a 23-20 loss at Cincinnati on Sunday, and wore a protective boot at the team's facility a day later.

Barnett was spotted wearing a protective boot on his right foot on Monday but Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey expects him to practice this week.||||||| Barnett was apparently hurt in a 23-20 loss at Cincinnati on Sunday.

Barnett didn't last long in free agency after agreeing to a three-year, $12 million contract with the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.||||||| The deal came two days after Barnett was released by the Green Bay Packers. And it was reached hours after the eight-year veteran watched a Bills walkthrough at training camp in suburban Rochester. Barnett was a cornerstone of the Packers' defense since being drafted in the first round in 2003 out of Oregon State. Injuries, however, have limited his performance and he's ended two of the past three seasons on injured reserve.
